Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized nearly three kg of heroin from a woman passenger, a Philippine national, at the Chennai airport on Monday.
In a release, P. Babu, Additional Director-General, said the Directorate received information that a woman passenger bound for Kuala Lumpur from Chennai was carrying narcotic drugs. She was stopped near the aerobridge of the flight. She was holding a passport issued by the Republic of Philippines and was in possession of checked-in luggage.
A trolley bag contained personal effects and a cover that was found concealed under the false bottom. The cover contained a white powder, and a test revealed that it was heroin. The officials seized the contraband weighing 2.95 kg, along with her travel documents.
The passenger admitted that she had received the bag with the drug in New Delhi and was carrying it to Kuala Lumpur. The seized drug was valued at Rs 2.9 crore in the international market.
