THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation’s quaint mansion in Kochi, Bolgatty Palace, is to be repositioned as a heritage hotel exclusively for high-end tourists and as a separate profit centre. The repositioning of the palace, built in 1744 by a Dutch trader, is part of the effort to convert the Bolgatty Island into a self contained destination within Kochi at an estimated cost of Rs.12-15 crore. “The work for repositioning will commence in October and will be completed in two years,” a tourism official told The Hindu. A separate check-in and check-out, health club, restaurant and other recreational facilities as in a premium hotel will be set up in the palace. “The aim is to tap the huge demand for rooms among high-end tourists,” the official said. Along with this, ‘Nalukettu’, the new block in the KTDC property in Bolgatty Island, having 24 rooms and six cottages on the lake front, will also be repositioned as Bolgatty Island Resort. The upcoming marina project will be a shot in the arm for the KTDC property. The proposed Marina House, will function as a premium hotel in the ambience of marina.
