This Day That Age
More than seven thousand persons on April 27 gathered outside the Kanoya City Hall in Southern Japan to watch the city’s 71-year old Mayor, Mr. Ryogo Nagata, clad in running gear, start the Asian Games flame on its 3,000-mile relay through Japan to Tokyo. Mr. Nagata who ran about 500 yards handed the torch on to another young runner. Latest reports said hundreds of Japanese villagers were lining the route to cheer the runners as they passed. The torch is due to arrive in Tokyo on the afternoon of May 24 when the games will be officially opened.
