Semmangudi centenary in July

CHENNAI: The birth centenary of Sangita Kalanidhi Semmangudi R. Srinivasa Iyer will be celebrated from July 24 to 27 at the Music Academy here.

N. Murali, Chairman of the celebration committee and president of the Music Academy, said in a statement that the function would begin with a curtain raiser concert by Ranjani and Gayathri on July 24.

The former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, will inaugurate the celebration on July 25, the birth anniversary of the maestro. He will also release a coffee table book on Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. It will be followed by a concert by Sangita Kalanidhi R.K. Srikantan. A short audio visual presentation will be made and CDs of the concerts of the maestro released on the inaugural day.

Concerts by Sudha Raghunathan, T.M. Krishna and Parasala Ponnammal will be held on July 26 and 27. Music sessions and lectures by the disciples of Srinivasa Iyer will also mark the festival.
