12 new synthetic turfs sanctioned
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has approved laying of 12 new synthetic turfs for hockey at a cost of Rs. 42 crore. Locations for new turfs include Singpura (Baramullah, J and K) and tribal pockets of Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) and Kokrajhar (Assam).
Work relating to the replacement of old turfs at the NIS, Patiala and Kolkata was underway, an official release said on Tuesday. The proposal for setting up another four hockey turfs was also in the pipeline.
Since taking over as Union Sports Minister, Dr. M.S. Gill has directed an increase in the number of synthetic hockey pitches. — Special Correspondent
