Engineers, lawyers and even Ph.Ds

Anil Kumar Sastry

BANGALORE: If academic qualification is the criterion for the selection of your representative during the Assembly elections, you have a wide choice this time. Those in the ring include lawyers, management experts, doctors and engineers.

One of the highly qualified candidates is the State Youth Congress President Krishna Byre Gowda, who is contesting from Byatarayanapura. He has an M.A. in International Affairs from the School of International Service, American University, Washington. Both the Congress and the BJP have Ph.Ds among their candidates. While Chikka Melurappa alias Mylarappa, who holds a Ph.D., in Sociology, is contesting from Pulakeshinagar as a BJP candidate, the Congress candidate from Padmanabhanagar, Gurappa Naidu, holds a doctoral degree in Economics.

There are several engineers too in poll fray. Dinesh Gundu Rao (Congress, Gandhinagar), B.N. Vijaya Kumar (BJP, Jayanagar), S. Raghu (BJP, C.V. Raman Nagar) and Aravind Limbavali (BJP, Mahadevapura) have engineering degrees.

Lawyers, who earlier constituted a majority in the Assembly, are also in the fray, but in small numbers this time. Prominent among them is former MLA and former State Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi (BJP, Vijayanagar). The other law graduates are M.A. Anand (JD-S, Rajajinagar), S. Suresh Kumar (BJP, Rajajinagar), Ramalinga Reddy (Congress, BTM Layout), B. Shivanna (Congress, Mahadevapura) and M. Satish Reddy (BJP, Bommanahalli).

Krishnappa (BJP, Bangalore South), Padmanabha Reddy (JD-S, Sarvagnanagar), Prasad Babu, Muninarayanaswamy (JD-S, Bommanahalli), K.C. Vijaya Kumar (Congress, C.V.
