Siddharth Bhattacharya Infopark, along with the upcoming SmartCity, would be able to provide a much better synergy enabling the co-existence of both big and small companies, Siddharth Bhattacharya, Chief Executive Officer of Infopark, has said. In an interview to The Hindu, he said that ensuring a balanced growth in the information technology sector leading to the overall development of Kochi and the State would be the top most priority. The focus would be on sustaining and accelerating the growth by overcoming the hurdles. “We will work with all the stakeholders in a very transparent manner [towards this end],” he said. This, he felt, would result in the overall development of the community and ensure a healthy relation between the industry and the community. He said that balanced growth was not just about big multinational companies (MNCs) alone but small entrepreneurs and small-scale businesses also had a role to play. This is especially true of a State like Kerala, he said. “Today’s small players are tomorrow’s MNCs,” he said. Mr. Bhattacharya said that the entire available space at the Infopark had been fully occupied. “We are in the process of developing five acres as part of expansion. We are also working on acquiring another 167 acres. In addition to this, our co-developers within the campus have drawn up growth plans of their own,” he said. He said that the customers of Infopark were very happy with the facilities available to them. “We have got a very healthy relationship with them. If we focus on that [relationship] and make it stronger day-by-day our reputation will grow. In future we would not have to go in search of companies for they could know how good our facilities are by talking to our customers,” he said. Asked about the necessity of according Special Economic Zone status for attracting investments he said that it should be left to the policy makers. A lot of companies are in a growth trajectory and are competing with global players. “Let the policy makers decide on the set of incentives that would help these companies to meet that competition.” The more important thing is how we can align ourselves with the policy and utilise it for the betterment of the IT sector. “For us [Infopark] it is important to be competitive, innovative and to have right set of priorities,” he said. About the safety of the IT employees especially while travelling at odd times, Mr. Bhattacharya said that there were government regulations in this regard. It was for the individual companies to comply with these regulations. M. P. Praveen
