TIRUVANNAMALAI: A private land has been identified for the establishment of an industrial estate by the Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) in Polur in Tiruvannamalai district, according to D. Rajendran, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SIDCO. Presiding over a consultation meeting with entrepreneurs in connection with the setting up of SIDCO industrial estates in Polur and Tiruvannamalai at the Collectorate here on Wednesday, Mr. Rajendran said that out of the 22 new industrial estates to be set up by SIDCO in Tamil Nadu, land has been identified for 19 industrial estates. The Polur industrial estate is the 20th industrial estate in the State for which land has been identified. The land is to be purchased by the government shortly. The district administration would soon select the land for the industrial estate in Tiruvannamalai. Industrial units have already been set up in five industrial estates in the State. The CMD said that each of the industrial estates would be set up on land measuring 20 to 50 acres, and industrial sheds would be set up for accommodating small and tiny industries. The construction of the sheds would be completed, infrastructure provided and the sheds allotted to entrepreneurs within 10 months of obtaining the land. For the tribalsPreference would be given to tribals in the allotment of sheds. The entrepreneurs could set up units for manufacturing value-added products based on rice, milk and bran and other agricultural produce including oilseeds. Entrepreneurs would be provided counselling on setting up profitable units. The rice mill owners and small-scale and tiny unit owners have agreed to cooperate in setting up units in the new industrial estate proposed in Tiruvannamalai, he said. Various concessions have been extended to industries that have been set up at the cost of Rs.25 lakh after February 22, 2008. They included capital subsidy of 15 per cent on purchase of machinery, and 20 per cent subsidy in electricity tariff for 36 months from the date of commencement of production or the date of issue of power connection, whichever was later. VAT exemptionThe products manufactured at the SIDCO industrial estates would be granted exemption from payment of value-added tax (VAT), thus facilitating the manufacturers to sell their products at a lower price. Mr. Rajendran appealed to the public to avail themselves of the concessions granted by the government for setting up small, tiny and medium industries in the SIDCO and SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) industrial estates in Tamil Nadu. Satyabrata Sahoo, Collector, G. Thamarai, District Revenue Officer, G. Murugan, General Manager, District Industries Centre, S. Narayanan, Assistant General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, and Srinivasan, lead bank manager, Indian Bank, participated in the meeting.
