DCC plans campaign against price rise

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The District Congress Committee (DCC) leadership, which met here on Tuesday, decided to organise a two-day campaign against price rise and breakdown of the law and order machinery in Kerala.

Mandalam congress committees will take out marches against the LDF government, DCC president V.S. Sivakumar said here.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the campaign on May 1 at Kodunganoor in Vattiyoorkavu panchayat. Mr. Sivakumar said the marches would also highlight the debt relief scheme for farmers and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme launched by the UPA government at the Centre.

On May 3, Congress workers will take out rallies and stage an evening dharna to demand immediate steps to contain price rise.

The DCC meeting urged the Chief Minister to send an all-party delegation to Delhi to press the demand for a High Court Bench. A resolution adopted by the leaders called upon Mr. Achuthanandan to hold talks with the Chief Justice on the issue.

Another resolution accused the LDF government of ignoring the development needs of the district.

Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy inaugurated the meeting.
