Achariya World School in pact with Cambridge University

Teachers will be given special training in new methods, techniques and styles

Programme also provided guidance for curriculum development, classroom teaching

PUDUCHERRY: Enhancing the learning opportunities for students by means of introducing latest curriculum and new methods of teaching, the Achariya World School offers the new Cambridge International Primary Programme from this academic year.

The school has been awarded the membership of the Cambridge International Primary Programme by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

Through this, the school would be able to access the programme which would help teachers to develop Mathematics, English and Science skills and knowledge in children in the age group of five to 11.

“With this recognition, world class education will be available to students. International standards of learning and examinations would be followed here,” Managing Trustee of Achariya J. Arawindhan told during a press conference on Wednesday.

A team from the University had visited the school to assess the students and facilities. The membership was available only after an evaluation to check if the school met the required standards, he added.

“The teachers of the school would be given special training in new methods, techniques and styles of teaching,” he said.

According to him, the programme also provided guidance for curriculum development, classroom teaching and learning. It also allows teachers to assess the children’s learning as they progress.

“We follow the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus. Students of Class X will write the board exam along with the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). This would be supplementary and would serve as an added advantage,” Mr. Arawindhan said.

To start with, the programme would be for students of class I to VI and later be expanded for Class X and XII, he said.

“The curriculum would enable students to understand and learn rather memorise the lessons. Students who pass the IGCSE examination with good grades are eligible for merit scholarships for higher education. We will become an International Centre for Learning from this academic year,” he said.
