Initiate action if they are not up to the mark: Collector

‘Cancel recognition of private junior colleges with performance below average percentage’
RIO and DVEO to inspect infrastructure such as toilets, security and quality of faculty

MAHABUBNAGAR: Collector V. Usharani directed the Regional Inspection Officer (RIO) of Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) to recommend secretary BIE to cancel the recognition of those private junior colleges whose performance in the intermediate examinations that were held last March was below the average percentage of the district.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday the Collector said that RIO and DVEO would visit all the private junior colleges in the district and inspect the infrastructure such as toilets, security, playground and quality faculty, available in the college. “If they are not up to the mark, initiate action against the college,” instructed the Collector.

Only 8,455 candidates have passed in the first year intermediate examination as against 26,677 students who appeared the examination recording the average percentage at 33, while only 9,166 students have passed in second year intermediate examinations of the total 20,079 students who appeared for the examination, putting the average percent at 44. Of the 162 junior colleges functioning in the district 51 are Government junior colleges, 98 are private unaided, 12 AP Social Welfare colleges and one is run by AP Tribal Welfare department. As many as 1282 junior lecturers are working in all the 162 junior colleges running in the district. The Collector said that a meeting of representatives of managements of private junior colleges and principals of government colleges including vocational colleges would be held soon to chalk out an action plan to improve the standards of intermediate education in the district.
