KASARAGOD: Congress leader Janardhan Poojary, MP, would inaugurate the Kasaragod district Billava convention at Kumbla at 10.30 a.m. on May 4, president of the reception committee C.K. Chippar has said. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Chippar said a colourful procession would precede the conference. The procession would start from Dhoomavathi Dharma Chavadi at 9 a.m. and would end at the conference venue. Leaders of Billava community from Kasaragod and Karnataka would speak at the inaugural meeting. B.K. Hariprasad, M.P., Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, would release a souvenir, ‘Brahma Baidya,’ at the inaugural meeting. Noted personalities from the Billava community would be felicitated at the function. A seminar on Law, Politics and Billavas would be held at 2 p.m. Mr. Chippar said the Billava community, which was the equivalent community of Ezhavas, concentrated mainly in Kasaragod and South Karnataka were remaining backward though they had a significant population. The Billava community was not united and the aim of the conference was to unite them.
