VIZIANAGARAM: Joint Commissioner (NREGP) R. Madhava Rao has said that social audit for watersheds and comprehensive land development programme will be introduced from the current fiscal to check irregularities. Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Madhava Rao said that during social audit of job guarantee scheme irregularities to the tune of Rs.16 crores (approximately) were detected in districts where the scheme was being implemented. Of the sum, Rs. 4 crores was recovered. In Vizianagaram district, he said of the Rs. 11.24 lakhs fraud, Rs. 1.16 lakhs was recovered and taken action against 47 employees. While three of them were suspended, cases against two were registered. He said that Rs. 150 crores was sanctioned under RIDF-13 and it would be implemented from Thursday (May 1). Vizianagaram district was sanctioned Rs. 10.56 crores for the development of 4,144 acres in 70 blocks, he said added that works left out under RIDF – IX and X would also be completed in this phase. Officer on Special Duty M. Ravindranath Babu on Wednesday released a poster condemning Maoists’ attacks on innocent tribals and destruction of public property. The posters will be pasted at vantage points in the Agency. In a release, he appealed to tribals to cooperate with the police for restoration of peace in the region. He said that the police would be distributing TVs and disc antenna to them besides sports kits and imparting training in job skills. Succumbs to injuriesG. Chinna Rao, a fruit vendor, of Maddilapalem in Visakhapatnam city, succumbed to injuries he sustained in an accident at A. Ravivalasa in Bhogapuram mandal on Tuesday evening. Sub-Inspector S. Tirumala Rao said that an unidentified car hit him while he was crossing the NH-5.
