Special Correspondent

‘Victory will give party a big boost to stage a comeback in next general elections’

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the byelections will be stepping stone for the Congress party to retain the 2009 elections in the State.

“Victory of the party candidates in the bypolls will not only strengthen the hands of AICC president Sonia Gandhi but also give the party a big boost to stage a comeback in the next general elections,” Dr. Reddy remarked at a meeting of the party workers from Khanapur Assembly constituency at his camp office on Wednesday night. Bypolls provided an opportunity for the people to vote for the Congress party so that it could fulfil all the aspirations of the needy with renewed commitment.

Referring to the development programmes initiated by the Congress government in tribal dominated Adilabad district, Dr. Reddy said according ownership rights to the tribals was the best gift that the UPA Government had given. Establishment of a medical college, 21st century Gurukulam and International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Adilabad district had proved the commitment of the Congress government to developing the backward areas. The government was determined to develop tribal dominated areas of Khanapur constituency on a par with other places in the State. Dr. Reddy called upon the people to vote for Nago Rao and A. Indrakaran Reddy, the party nominee for Adilabad Lok Sabha seat.
