All set for car festival

TIRUVARUR: Elaborate arrangements are being made for the car festival of Sri Thyagarajaswamy temple at Tiruvarur on May 4, according to M.Chandrasekar, Tiruvarur Collector.

He held discussions with officials regarding the arrangements at the Collectorate on Wednesday.

He told presspersons at Tiruvarur that police had made elaborate bandobast arrangements. A total of 1,300 police personnel will be on duty. Home guards, National Cadet Corps (NCC) will also be on bandobust duty. Monitoring will be done by the police at the control room. Cameras will be fitted to monitor cases of eve-teasing and other social evils. Arrangements have been made to provide protected drinking water and safe food items to devotees.

Medical teams will be put on duty. A mobile medical unit will function on that day. Following traffic regulations have been announced by the police from midnight of May 3 to midnight of May 4 in view of the car festival.

No vehicle including two wheelers will be allowed on the four streets where the car procession will take place. Buses coming from Kumbakonam to Tiruvarur should go via Kalpalam instead of the usual route to reach the bus stand. Buses coming from Mayiladuthurai to Tiruvarur should come via Kodikal Palayam Lane, EVS Nagar and LIC office to reach the temporary bus stand. Buses going from Mayiladuthurai to Thiruthuraipoondi, Nannilam to Mannargudi and Mayiladuthurai to Mannargudi should go or come via Kodikal Palayam Sandhu, East Street, Ayyanar Kovil Street and Nethaji Street. Additional buses will be operated by the Transport corporation to help devotees who want to come to Tiruvarur to witness the car festival.
