BJP hartal tomorrow

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has called for a nation-wide hartal on May 2 to protest against the increase in prices of essential commodities under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government rule, has decided to highlight the Centre and State governments neglect of Kerala’s valid requirements.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, BJP State general secretary M.P. Ramesh alleged that the Congress and the Left parties were running away from the real issues by organising agitations.

The Left agitation against the UPA government and the Congress agitation against the State government were bogus. The dawn to dusk hartal would also be a protest against the Centre’s decision to cut the State’s ration quota and the failure of the LDF government to take effective measures to contain the price spiral, he said.

He said the Left parties took pride in calling the shots in Delhi. On many occasions in the past, the Left parties had kept the UPA government on needle point. Its decision to stage a walk out in Parliament when the Finance Bill was put to vote and announce an agitation against the government on the price front amounted to betraying the people, he said.
