CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Haryana Janhit Congress leader Bhajan Lal on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the Adampur Assembly by-election scheduled for May 22. His wife Jasma Devi filed her nomination papers as a covering candidate. Mr. Bhajan Lal’s younger son, Janhit Congress president Kuldeep Bishnoi, was also present. The by-election was necessitated after Mr. Bhajan Lal was disqualified recently as MLA by the Haryana Assembly Speaker after he joined the newly-floated Janhit Congress. Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Sampat Singh accused Mr. Bhajan Lal of “double-speak”. He said the people had “now become intelligent and aware and the phase of Mr. Bhajan Lal and his policies of corruption and defection had passed away.” Meanwhile, the INLD also sharply criticised Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s statement that “prices are under control and inflation is not an issue in the State.” Addressing an election meeting at Salemgarh village in Adampur, INLD secretary-general Ajay Singh Chautala said Mr. Hooda’s statement showed that the Congress had no concern for the people. Mr. Chautala charged that the people were reeling under the impact of unprecedented inflation and spiralling prices even as the Chief Minister was going around making false claims about development in the State.
