Fish ‘prasadam’ on June 7

Over six lakh persons expected to take medicine this year

Prasadam will be given from 7.22 p.m. on June 7

Distribution will continue till 7.22 p.m. on June 8

HYDERABAD: The Bathini fish ‘prasadam’ for asthma patients will be distributed at Exhibition Grounds in the city on June 7.

Scheduled to start at 7.22 p.m. on Mrigasira Karthi, which heralds the advent of monsoon, the distribution will continue till 7.22 p.m. on June 8.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Bathini Harinath Goud said for those unable to take the ‘prasadam’ at the venue during these 24 hours, the distribution would continue at their family residences at Doodh Bowli and Kavadiguda. Last year, around 6 lakh persons availed of the prasadam administered with either fish or jaggery and this year the numbers could swell more, he claimed.

Family secret

The Bathini family had been distributing the fish prasadam free of cost for the last 163 years while zealously guarding the secret of preparation.

The secret formula for the herbal medicine was given to their ancestors in the year 1845 by an ascetic with an instruction that it should be administered free of cost, said Mr. Goud.

Active support of the district administration and the police was expected as in the previous years, he said.

This year the prasadam would be prepared to meet the requirements of more than 6 lakh persons suffering from asthma.

Special counter

A special counter would also be set up at the Police Commissionerate office. The Fisheries Department was already informed about the date so that necessary arrangements for sardine fish fingerlings (murrel) could be made, Mr. Goud said.
