They have been wearing black badges for the past 10 days alleging step-motherly attitude by State BHUBANESWAR: More than 3000 engineers of Orissa threatened to go on mass leave from May 2 alleging that the State Government did not give due importance to their 9-point demands. “Engineers in various departments have continued wearing black badges for last 10 days as a protest against State government’s step-motherly attitude towards our demands,” said M. R. Nanda, general secretary of Orissa Engineers’ Service Association (OESA). He said the en masse leave would result in upset in the developmental works involving Rs. 15,000 crore expenditure while the State government could lose huge amount of central fund. Besides, some essential services including drinking water supply, sewerage disposal system, irrigation, electricity supply and drain repairs would come to a grinding halt, OESA warned. The association was demanding formation of engineers’ cadres in panchayati raj and rural development department, immediate filling up of vacant posts and finalisation gradation list, removal of pay anomalies and time bound scale
