NEW DELHI: An employee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and a Central Reserve Police Force functionary were injured when an angry mob, protesting against a civic body crackdown on illegal dairies, resorted to stone-throwing in New Usmanpur here on Wednesday. MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the incident could have been avoided if more security personnel had been provided to the MCD squad. “We had asked for 40 police personnel from the New Usmanpur police station, but we got just 13, of whom six were from the CRPF. The crackdown on illegal dairies is as per a court directive and a report has to be submitted to the Municipal Commissioner by August 31,” said Mr. Gupta. Case registeredDespite the unruly mob damaging an MCD van and freeing eight captured cattle, the MCD managed to round up 79 head of cattle from the illegal dairies. A case has been registered at the New Usmanpur police station, but no arrests have been made. Mr. Gupta disclosed that the civic body was toying with the idea of acquiring its own security force for such purposes. He also plans to speak to Delhi’s Police Commissioner about the incident.
