Create world-class enterprises, students told

Fruit of hard work: Students at the Annual Convocation of Delhi College of Engineering in the Capital on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday presented 456 B.E. degrees, 101 B.Tech. degrees and 132 post-graduate degrees to students of Delhi College of Engineering at its annual Convocation here at Bawana.

Addressing the Convocation, the Chief Minister said engineering professionals have to nurture not only individual excellence but need to excel in a group so that their capabilities can be utilised for nation-building.

Ms. Dikshit said the Department of Training and Technical Education and the Delhi College of Engineering have developed a well thought out perspective plan for growth of quality technical education in Delhi. She exhorted the young graduates to deliberate on how they can help create world-class small and medium enterprises. She also underlined the need to develop the knowledge infrastructure in the institutions in partnership with the industries.

At the Convocation, the Lieutenant-Governor’s Gold Medal was awarded to Alpesh Chaddha for his outstanding performance in academics, professional activities and extra curricular activities. The Chief Minister’s Gold Medal was awarded to S. Anuradha for the best academic performance in all the branches of engineering and the Principal’s Gold Medal was awarded to Lalit Kumar Solanki for outstanding performance among the graduating class of B.Tech.

Among others present were the Vice-Chancellor of UP Technical University, Prem Vrat, the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Technological University, Bhopal, P.B. Sharma, Delhi Government’s Technical Education Secretary G. Narender Kumar and DCE Principal Ashok Bhattacharya. Delivering the Convocation Address, Prof. Prem Vrat called upon the young graduates to contribute to the process of nation-building through engineering and technology.

Prof. Bhattacharya presented the Director’s Report and informed that EDUSAT-HUB had been commissioned in the college.
