Chandigarh: The on-going heat wave in most pockets of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh further intensified on Wednesday as the maximum temperature soared by about a degree in the region. The maximum temperature was four to six degrees above normal in most of the places in Punjab and Haryana, the met office said here. In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Hisar remained the hottest place with a high of 45.2 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees above normal. While Bhiwani sizzled at a high of 42.8 degrees Celsius, Amritsar touched a high of 42.4 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal. Patiala reeled under a high of 42.6 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana sizzled at a high of 42.1 degrees Celsius and Ambala touched a high of 41.8 degrees Celsius, four degrees Celsius above normal. Power cutsChandigarh and Karnal recorded an identical high of 42 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal. Besides gradual rise in maximum temperature, several parts of the region faced long power cuts and shortage of water supply adding to the woes of the people. No respiteThe met department predicted no respite from heat conditions as during the next 24 hours the heat wave is likely to further aggravate. However, few pockets in the region are likely to be hit by dust storms and thunder storms, the met department said here. PTI
