Bangalore: Bangalore’s association with jazz got more “curious”, in a manner of speaking. The Black Dog Jazz Incident will present the Amsterdam jazz band “Agog” featuring a group of accomplished musicians on May 2. “Agog” is not a typical guitar trio but a mini orchestra which uses the group sound and the unique chemistry between the musicians to its full potential. The trio — comprising guitarist Frank Wingold, drummer Joost Lijbaart and bassist Mark Haanstra — began their band in September 2001 and since then have put their mark on the musical landscape both in and outside the Netherlands. Frank Wingold studied jazz and classical guitar at the well-known Hilversum Conservatory. Now he lives in Cologne and is part of various local bands. He performs regularly in clubs and at festivals all over Europe, in Russia, the U.S. and Central America. Drummer Joost Lijbaart, born in Amsterdam, is one of Holland’s most innovative drummers who has been influenced and inspired by many different musical styles and cultures. Classical pianoMark Haanstra (1974) started with classical piano at the age of six and switched to bass in his teens and later went to study bass guitar and double bass at the Conservatory of Hilversum. The event is being organised by Black Dog and Radio Indigo who have brought several international jazz appearances to the city in an endeavour to put Bangalore on the international jazz map. The band will perform on May 2 at the Grand Ashok, from 8 p.m. onwards. For details, call 25501128 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
