Jayendra Saraswathi HYDERABAD: Sri Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham has appealed to people to perform ‘gurupuja’ on May 9 in every household to mark the ‘jayanti’ celebrations of Jagadguru Sankaracharya. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Sri Jayendra Saraswati stressed that performance of ‘gurupuja’ was necessary to re-establish a sense of devotion in society and lay a spiritual path for it to follow and for protecting ‘Hindu dharma’. Providing booksHe said the Skandagiri Temple in Padmaraonagar (where he is staying) would provide books on literature required for the celebrations if devotees write to the head. ‘Perform tasks’The Sankaracharya called upon youth to perform five tasks, including poojas, giving tuitions and reading religious texts for ushering in awakening in society. These would help youth come up in life traversing a good path and leading to harmony in society and much desired change. He said the Kanchi Peetham was ready to establish educational institutions and ‘veda patashalas’ if the Government allotted land. It would start a college in Tirupati next year. The Sankaracharya would leave here on the evening of May 8 to take part in the jayanti celebrations on a grand scale at Kanchi on May 9. At the press conference he refused to answer questions on Ram Temple and Rama Sethu issues as they were pending in courts.
