Nedumbassery: GoAir, the Mumbai-based domestic budget airline, has suspended its operations to the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) with effect from May 1. In an official statement made to The Hindu, Freddy Castro, manager of corporate communications, GoAir, said that the airline had to make use of it current slots in Mumbai airport for other operations as no new slots were allotted to it at Mumbai. It said that despite reduction in sales tax on ATF by the Kerala Government, the current fee structure in Cochin airport remains the highest in the country. Also the partial closure of the airport next season for domestic flights has affected their operations. The final GoAir flight from Cochin departed for Delhi via Mumbai at 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday. CIAL officials, however, denied that it had the country’s highest free structure and said airports of the country charged parking and landing charges uniformly. Earlier, there were reports that with the partial closure of the airport during the next season, most of the low cost airlines would be forced to cancel their services to the airport instead of a rescheduling. Spice Jet had suspended its services here in a similar way.
