Airport workers’ strike

A Correspondent

Nedumbassery: The leadership of the Airlines Casual Employees Association (ACEA) at the Cochin International Airport Limited announced on Wednesday that they would go on an indefinite strike from May 5 unless their demands for better pay and working conditions were met.

“The final round of talks with Air India is scheduled on May 5 and if the talks fail, we will be forced to go on a full-fledged strike,” said K. J. Isaac, vice-president of ACEA said at a press conference. Sebastian Paul MP, president of the CITU affiliated union is expected to lead the talks on May 5 with Air- India officials.

The ACEA is having differences with Air India, the agency entrusted with the duty of baggage handling services at the Cochin airport. It is boycotting the over-time duty hours since last week.
