CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday walked out of the Assembly on separate occasions. The AIADMK members staged a walkout after Speaker R. Avudaiappan ordered the eviction of Palladam legislator and former Minister, S.M. Velusamy, from the House for disrupting proceedings. For some time, the AIADMK members did not allow the watch and ward to remove Mr. Velusamy. Public Works Minister Durai Murugan took exception to this behaviour. Subsequently, led by Mr. Paneerselvam, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, they walked out. Earlier, CPI (M) member K. Balabharathy sought action against the management of Hyundai factory at Sriperumpudur, alleging that a leader of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and others were assaulted there while attempting to hoist the union flag. She said the incident happened even after seeking court’s permission for hoisting the flag. Some persons were arrested. Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami said the flag was hoisted on the site belonging to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT). The Minister said the government would take action for releasing those arrested. The CPI (M) members then staged a walkout.
