CHENNAI: There were cheers for the Indians in the just concluded German Open junior squash tournament held in Munich. ICL trainees Anaka Alankamony won the silver in the girls’ under-15 category, while Anwesha Reddy and Ravi Dixit returned home with bronze medals in their respective under-17 categories, according to information reaching here. Anaka lost to Amanda Sobhy (USA) 5-9, 9-4, 10-8, 5-9, 0-9 in the final that went full distance. She defeated third seed Llona Lagerweij (Netherlands) 9-1, 10-8, 9-2 in the semifinals. Anwesh, seeded 9/16 beat Tesni Evans (Wales) 9-2, 5-9, 9-7, 3-9, 9-3 in the quarterfinals before losing to top seed Kanzy El Defrawy (Egypt) 9-2, 9-2, 9-3 in the semifinals. Ravi also seeded 9/16, had a 90 minute battle against Robert Downer 7-9, 1-9, 9-3, 9-7, 9-6 in the pre-quarterfinals before knocking out fourth seed Nicholas Hopcroft 9-6, 8-10, 9-1, 9-0. However, in the semifinals he fell to the eventual winner and top seed Rudi Rohrmuller (Germany) 1-9, 0-9, 5-9.
