Chennai: The ICICI-Young Stars Cricket Association (YSCA) Trophy tournament is set to begin on Thursday (May 1) at the Ramakrishna School ground. Into its 39th edition, the popular private club tournament has as many as 63 teams in the fray, and the event will be conducted in two tiers; knock-out in the first phase and then in the quarter-final league format. The final is scheduled to be held on June 7 under floodlights at the MAC Stadium. Briefing the media on the features of the tournament, M. S. Gurumurthy, Secretary, YSCA, said that top teams like India Cements (holder), Chemplast, Indian Bank, India Pistons, IOB, Parry, State Bank (Thiruvananthapuram), BPCL-KRL, Vijaya Bank, State Bank of Mysore, Precision Infomatics would vie for the prize money of Rs. 25,000 for the winner. Prominent city colleges, Loyola, Gurunanak, and Pachaiyappas along with leading schools, St.Bedes and Santhome HSS have also been accommodated in the draw. Gurumurthy informed that invitations have been extended to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi), IOC, Mumbai and Mumbai Colts. He also thanked the new sponsor, ICICI for helping the club to continue with the popular tournament. Mr.Sreedhar Dharmapuri, Regional Head, Branch Banking, ICICI, speaking on behalf of the sponsor, said the bank was happy to associate itself with the tournament.
