AIIMS refutes negligence charge
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences has refuted the charge of negligence in the case of a 45-year-old patient who had alleged that she was misdiagnosed and operated upon at the institute for breast cancer.
Stating that the confusion in the case could have been caused because of a mix-up in tissue samples, AIIMS spokesperson Y.K. Gupta said: “The lady was operated on April 3 after having gone through three sets of tests, all of which confirmed breast cancer. Her breast was removed at the hospital. The patient’s claim that some tests came out negative for breast cancer could have been because of the mix-up of samples. The patient has been diagnosed correctly and has been followed-up with standardised treatment.”
