‘It will give a call to Muslims in the district to vote against the party’ DAVANGERE: Davangere Muslim Yuva Vedike has condemned the manner in which the local Congress leaders had deprived a Muslim leader of an opportunity to contest the election from Davangere North on the party ticket. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, vedike leader Abdul Bari said that his organisation would teach a lesson to the Congress in the district during the coming election. PressureMr. Bari said that Syed Saifulla was selected by the Congress to contest from Davangere North and was given B Form. But the local leaders and their followers pressured Mr. Saifulla to handover the B Form to another aspirant and allow him to contest from Davangere North. Since two names were written on the B Form, nomination papers of both of them were considered invalid by the election authorities, and the Congress was virtually defeated in the constituency even before the election. ProminenceHe said that after realising that it had not given prominence to the Muslims though they had been supporting it, the Congress had decided to reserve certain seats for the community. Hence, the party gave ticket to a Muslim for Davangere North, he said. But the local Congress leaders created a mess on the last day of filing of nomination papers which resulted in the party losing an opportunity to contest the election, he said. AttitudeHe said that the vedike condemned the attitude of the local Congress leaders. There were many Muslims in other constituencies of the district. The vedike would discuss the matter and soon give a call to the Muslims across the district to vote against the Congress in the coming elections, he added.
