Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee will attend the festival as a special guest It will be an annual feature henceforth, says the Association secretary BHUBANESWAR: As part of its golden jubilee year celebration, Orissa Cine Critics’ Association (OCCA) would host a three-day Oriya film festival in the city, commencing on May 22. Briefing the media persons, Association president Pradosh Patnaik and secretary Dilip Hali informed that the event would be organised in association with Mumbai-based Visual Communications Private Limited on KIIT University campus. Besides screening of films, OCCA annual awards would be presented during the concluding evening, they said and announced that eminent actor Sarat Pujari and veteran music director Shantanu Mohapatra would be conferred with Lifetime Achievement awards on the occasion. The Association has resolved to institute awards for television programmes this year, the secretary revealed. Last year’s national award winner regional film ‘Kathantara’ (directed by Himansu Khatua), Subas Das directed acclaimed film ‘Aw Akare Aa’ and ‘Pujapaine Phulatiea’ directed by Gadadhar Puty are scheduled to be screened in the festival, Mr. Hali said. SymposiumA delegation of Mumbai-based Oriya filmmakers would be attending the festival that would have a symposium on the role of filmmakers in promotion of Orissa tourism, he added. A seminar deliberating different aspects of present day Oriya cinema is being planned that would be addressed by the film industry’s prominent personalities. “We are trying to invite a few people from Mumbai film industry to interact with our film fraternity on the latest trends in filmmaking”, Mr. Hali said. Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee would attend the festival as a special guest and she would present a dance show along with her troupe, the secretary informed. The festival would be a regular annual feature hereafter, he said.
