No entrance test for English (Honours)

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi University on Thursday decided that its constituent colleges will admit students to the English (Honours) programme on the basis of their school-leaving marks.

There will be no common entrance test or any separate examination by any college for this course for this session.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the University Committee on Common Entrance Test for English (Hons) after the colleges could not arrive at a consensus on holding a common entrance test for the course.

“There was no consensus between colleges. There were some who accepted the common entrance test, a few others wanted some conditions to be fulfilled before doing that. So it was decided that students will be admitted on the basis of their Class XII marks in school under whichever Board,” said Dean of Arts Shormishtha Panja.

The University had recently decided to do away with individual entrance tests for English (Hons) held by 18 colleges teaching the programme.

Meanwhile, the University on Thursday launched its helpline for admission-related counselling a month in advance.

“The helpline is especially for admissions to under-graduate courses. Aspirants for admission to different courses can call up 27662507, 27662508 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on working days. Admissions seekers can also contact the office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare, or write to dsw@du.ac.in . Queries will be answered by faculty members and specially trained senior students of the University,” said an official release.

Students can also visit www.du.ac.in for admission-related information
