DHARWAD: Thirty-six candidates filed their nominations in Dharwad district on Friday the penultimate day for filing of nominations. Fifteen candidates filed their nominations in Gadag district, while 48 did so in Haveri district. The former MLAs, Vinay Kulkarni, B.C. Patil, Nehru Olekar, K.B. Koliwada were prominent among those who filed their nomination papers on Friday. For the first time after the nomination process began, a huge procession was held in Dharwad when the former MLA and Congress leader Vinay Kulkarni came to file nomination from Dharwad Assembly Constituency. Along with a large number of supporters he was accompanied by Santosh Lad, party candidate in Kalghatgi. Mr. Lad will be filing his nomination papers on Saturday. Some of the candidates, including the former MLA Chandrakant Bellad who had already submitted their nominations earlier, filed a few more sets of nomination on Friday. With the Congress announcing its final list of candidates for the third phase of the elections on Friday, the official candidates and rebel candidates will be filing their nominations on Saturday.
