KASARAGOD: The State government will implement a Rs.3000-crore comprehensive development project for the development of coastal villages here, Fisheries Minister S. Sarma has said. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday prior to the State-level inauguration of the project at Ajanoor in the district, Mr. Sarma said the project had been drafted based on the report submitted by a specially appointed action committee. The project included commissioning of drinking water projects, construction of fish landing centres and coastal roads, opening of awareness centres and knowledge dissemination centres for fishermen and construction of bio-gas plants using fish wastes and starting of fish markets, the Fisheries Minister said. On the proposed satellite centres to be opened in all districts to monitor the movement of fish shoals and disseminate information to the people, Mr. Sarma said the aim of the government was to open it before the monsoon. The Minister said 27 different projects would be launched in the district a part of the comprehensive coastal development project. The total estimated cost of the projects was Rs.6.27 crore. The Minister later inaugurated the project at Ajanoor. P. Karunakaran, Memeber of Parliament, was the chief guest at the function. Those who spoke included C.H. Kunhambu, C.T. Ahmed Ali, Pallipram Balan and K. Kunhiraman.
