Job guarantee scheme launched

For their benefit : Workers laying a road under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at Chikkapoovathi village, near Krishnagiri, on Friday.
Krishnagiri: The Centre sponsored National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) ensuring job opportunity to the agricultural labourers was inaugurated in the district on Friday.
Launching the scheme at Chikkapoovathi village near here Krishnagiri MLA T. Senguttuvan said that the scheme was a boon to agricultural labourers and asked them to make effective use of it. A total of 18,152 persons including 10,597 women had registered their names expressing interest to work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme.
The total number of people enrolled in blocks is as follows: Krishnagiri – 2,492, Kaveripattinam – 3,908, Veppanapalli – 718, Bargur – 1,703, Mathur – 1,105, Uthangarai – 2,375, Hosur – 708, Shoolagiri – 460, Kelamangalam – 4,223 and Thally – 460.
The Centre-sponsored scheme will be implemented with 10 per cent contribution from the State government in 50 pilot villages in the district in the first phase. The remaining villages would be covered in a phased manner he said.
