597 in fray in second phase

BANGALORE: A total of 597 candidates are in the fray in 66 constituencies in 10 districts — Raichur, Koppal, Uttara Kannada, Bellary, Chitradurga, Davangere, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada — which will go to the polls in the second phase on May 16.

Number of voters

There are 110.26 lakh voters in the 66 constituencies, of whom 55.25 lakh are men and 55.02 lakh are women. As many as 905 candidates had filed papers.

In the fray

The former Chief Ministers S. Bangarappa of the Samajwadi Party and B.S. Yeddyurapa of the BJP are contesting against each other in Shikaripur constituency in Shimoga district.

The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash, the former Ministers R.V. Deshpande, D.B. Chandre Gowda, Kagodu Thimmappa, B. Ramanath Rai, B. Nagaraj Shetty, B. Sriramulu, MP Karunakara Reddy are some of the prominent candidates in the fray.
