ALAPPUZHA: Bharanikavu block panchayat member and Palamel North local committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) P.N. Pramod Narayanan has announced his resignation from the party and the block panchayat citing differences with the party on his views on Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Narayanan said he was suspended from the party on Wednesday after he aired his views against Mr. Sudhakaran at a public seminar in Mavelikara on Tuesday. He had demanded that the Minister resign from the party for ‘making distasteful statements, unnecessarily criticising senior party members, and for trying to ruin the foundation of the party in the district.’ “However, the Charumoodu area committee chose to suspend me without conducting a proper inquiry or hearing my version. They relied only on media reports. The fact that I have been pointing out Mr. Sudhakaran’s anti-party activities for the last three years and that I had sent complaints to party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and the Polit Bureau was ignored,” he said. Mr. Narayanan alleged that Mr. Sudhakaran, who had ‘made it a habit of making inopportune statements without considering his designation as Minister,’ had asked him during a previous district conference of the party to raise his voice against Education Minister M.A. Baby and Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac. “He asked me to term them American spies. That is when I complained to the State Committee and the PB.” “The CPI (M), which is known to give its members freedom for expression, has to treat everyone equally,” he said
