Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed the government order banning production, storage, consumption, distribution and transportation of plastic bottles, carry bags and cups with thickness below 50 microns in the State. The stay will remain in force till May 22. Justice V. Giri passed the interim order on a writ petition filed by the All Kerala Plastic Dealers’ Association and others. According to the petitioners, the action of the government violated the High Court’s earlier order staying the ban on plastic bottles and carry bags of above 30 micron thickness. The court had earlier directed the government and the pollution control board to hear the petitioners’ objection before deciding on the issue.
