The article “The man who turned Russia around” (May 1) aptly summarised all of Vladimir Putin’s stupendous achievements and rightly compared him with other legendary leaders. It is a fact that Mr. Putin has put Russia back on the global map and challenged the unipolar world order. His astute leadership has ensured that Russians live on a higher pay and his popularity ratings are a testimony to the immense respect he enjoys in his country. That he was not able to control corruption has come as a shock. Surely, for a leader like him, combating corruption should not have been a problem? One sincerely hopes his successor will be able to complete this unfinished business of his. S. Sudhir Kumar, Hyderabad
