THENI: Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Division-IV) Limited will operate special buses to Veerapandi from different places in the district for Chithirai festival of Sri Gowmariamman Temple, according to a press release from the Corporation here on Friday. Special buses will be operated to Veerapandi from Bodi, Periyakulam, Andipattti, Chinnamanur, Gudalur, Uthamapalayam and Usilampatti between May 6 and 13. Buses will be operated round-the-clock to clear extra rush during festival days. Officials will be deputed at bus stands to assist pilgrims visiting the temple. Wireless equipment will also be installed to regulate movement of buses and help bus crew in emergency cases. A temporary bus stand has been set up on the northern side of Mullaperiyar River. Traffic diversionRegular buses coming from Cumbum will take a diversion at Uppukottai pass to reach Theni bus stand. They will pass through Thadicherry and Aranmanaipudhur to reach the bus stand. Buses going towards Cumbum from Theni would be diverted at Uppukottai pass and pass through Kuchanur and Margaiyankottai. Veerapandi town panchayat authorities have installed drinking water taps in 15 places in the temple premises for the convenience of pilgrims. Even before formal commencement of the festival, arrival of pilgrims to the temple has gone up substantially. Pilgrims with fire pots have been thronging the temple.
