67 candidates in fray in Raichur

17 candidates withdraw their nomination papers

Raichur: Sixty-seven candidates are in the fray after 17 independents withdrew their nomination papers from Raichur Rural, Raichur (City), Sindhanur, Maski and Lingsugur (SC) segments in Raichur district on Friday.

Raichur Rural is the only segment in the district where no independent candidates are in the fray. Candidates from the Congress, Janata Dal (Secular), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are in the fray.

In Raichur, there are nine independent candidates, six in Sindhanur, five in Lingsugur, three in Deodurga and two in Manvi. The Congress, Janata Dal (S) and BJP have fielded their candidates in all the segments in the district and the Janata Dal (United) is the only party, which has fielded its candidate only for Lingsugur (Scheduled Castes).

Except Lingsugur (Scheduled Castes), the BSP is contesting for other six seats in the district.

Except Maski, Samajwadi Party is contesting for other six seats. Lok Janashakti has fielded its candidates for Raichur (City), Maski and Lingsugur seats.

Prominent among those who are in the fray are Raichur MP A. Venkatesh Naik of Congress (Deodurga), the former MP Raja Rangappa Naik of JD(S) (Raichur Rural), the former Minister Muniyappa Muddappa of Samajwadi Party (Raichur City), the former MLAs Hampangouda Badarli of Congress (Sindhanur), Gangadhara Naik of BJP (Manvi), A. Papa Reddy of BJP (Raichur City), Syed Yasin (Raichur City) and Venkat Rao Nadagouda of JD(S) (Sindhanur).

Following is the list of candidates in the fray — Raichur Rural (Scheduled Tribes): Raja Rayappa Naik (Congress), Raja Rangappa Naik (Janata Dal-Secular), Bassangouda Daddal (BJP) and K.B. Shanthappa (BSP).

Raichur (City): Syed Yasin (Congress), M. Eranna (Janata Dal-Secular), Muniyappa Muddappa (SP), E. Anjaneya (BSP), A. Papa Reddy (BJP), Noor Ahmed (Lok Janashakti) and Aparna B.R., and Sheik Hussan Pasha, P. Balappa, G. Krishan Yadav, Mohammed Shyalam Hussain, Jameel Ahmed, Mallikarjuna Nagappa, Ramanna Neermanvi, V.H. Master, independent candidates.

Manvi (Scheduled Tribes): Gangadhara Naik (BJP), Hampaiah Naik (Congress), Raja Venkatappa Naik (JD-S), Adeppa Deewan (Samajwadi Party), Eramma (BSP) and Mallappa Bangari and Mudukappa Naik (independents).

Deodurga (ST): A. Venkatesh Naik (Congress), Shivangouda Naik (JD-S), Sujata Patil (BJP), Sanjeevappa (SP), Venkanna Dore (BSP) and Manasaiah, Hanumesh and Adeppa Karigudda (independents).

Sindhanur: Hampangouda Badarli (Congress), R. Narayanappa (BJP), Venkat Rao Nadagouda (JD-S), Veeresh (SP), Mariyappa (BSP), R. Eramma (Lok Janashakti), Jayanandaiah Swamy (Rashtriya Hindu Sene) and Basawaraj Hosalli, Mohammed Shafi, Maremma, Yogappa, Ramanna Iralagaddi and Pasha Maski (independents).

Maski (Scheduled Tribes): Thimmappa (Congress), Ayyangouda (Janata Dal -Secular), Pratapgouda Patil (BJP), Nagaraj Basappa (Bahujan Samaj Party), H.R. Shivakumar (Lok Janashakti) and Shivappa, Kareppa Kandgal, Amaresh and Somangouda (independents).

Lingsugur (Scheduled Castes): A. Vasanthkumar (Congress), Thippanna.Lalappa Naik (Janata Dal-Secular), Manappa Vajjal (BJP), Balappa (Janata Dal-United), Patavardhan (SP), Rangappa (Lok Janashakti) and Rajaneekanth, Shekariaha, Bheemappa, K.Babu, Ramanna (independents).
