Revanna confident of party winning all seats in district Stresses need for strong regional party
Decisive: Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Revanna addressing presspersons in Hassan on Friday. HASSAN: The former Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Revanna has said that the party will not get into any post-poll alliance. “If we get a majority, we will form the government on our own. Otherwise, we will sit in the Opposition. There are no second thoughts on this,” he said. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said the charge made by the Bharatiya Janata Party that the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) had decided not to field candidates in Shikaripur was not true. He accused the Congress and the BJP of practising similar political tactics by making false electoral promises. The Congress was divided in the State, he said and added that for the past 50 years it had never responded to the problems of farmers. He said the sudden announcement of a loan waiver scheme was intended to mislead people. Mr. Revanna also refuted statements by Congress leader H. Viswanath in Mysore that liquor was being transported in vehicles owned by the Karnataka Milk Federation, of which Mr. Revanna was president. On not fielding a candidate against the former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa in Shikaripur, Mr. Revanna said the former was a kind-hearted person who had concern for the poor and farmers. On the recent visit of the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna here and his public address at Holenarsipur, Belur and Alur, Mr. Revanna said he had no objection even if Mr. Krishna made a house-to-house campaign in Holenarsipur. “The Janata Dal (S) will win all seven seats in the district,” he added. Mr. Revanna said when the National Democratic Alliance Government was in office, it had released large amounts of money to various States, but this had not been done by the United Progressive Alliance Government. He stressed the need for a strong regional party in the State if it had to progress. District Janata Dal (S) president H.K. Javare Gowda and party candidate for Hassan H.S. Prakash were present.
