Vayalar Ravi meets Karunanidhi

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs and coordinator for the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at his residence on Friday. He was accompanied by TNCC president M.Krishnasswamy.

Talking to newsmen later, Mr. Ravi said it was a courtesy call and they had discussed the political situation.

Asked if there would be changes in the party’s State unit, Mr.Ravi said it would be done at an appropriate time by the high command, preferably after the current Parliament session. His main task would be to strengthen the party at the grassroots level in coordination with State leaders. Stating that the Centre was taking necessary measures to control prices of essential commodities, he described the agitation by the BJP as politically motivated.

The price rise issue would not have any impact on the party’s prospects in the Karnataka Assembly elections, he added.
