Manmohan urged to restore rice quota
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take steps to restore the State’s quota of rice for public distribution under the APL (above poverty line) category.
Dr. Reddy, who called on the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Friday, urged him to restore last year’s quota of 1.76 lakh tonnes a month that was reduced to 1.31 lakh tonnes.
He assured Dr. Singh that the Government was prepared to increase rice procurement from Andhra Pradesh from 62 lakh tonnes to 67 lakh tonnes.
Positive response
A press release from the A. P. Information Centre in New Delhi said that the Prime Minister responded positively to the request.
