Alternative identity cards for voters

BELLARY: In the absence of the electors’ photo identity card, voters can produce other specified documents of identity issued by a competent authority to cast their vote.

Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer Arvind Srivastav, in a press release, said that according to the order of the Election Commission of India, producing the electors’ photo identity card was a must. In case the voter did not possess the card, he could produce any other proof, with photograph, to prove his identity.

Passport, driving licence, income tax PAN card, passbooks of nationalised banks with photograph, identity cards issued by companies to their employees, identity cards issued prior to October 2007 by educational institutions, property registration papers along with photograph, freedom fighters’ identity card, arms licence with photograph issued prior to March 31, 2008, ex-servicemen CSD canteen card, Sandhya Suraksha Yojana identity card along with photograph, job card under the NREG Scheme could be produced.
