No dissidence in Congress: leaders

Staff Correspondent

‘Shivaram’s candidature has been accepted, party working towards his victory’

HASSAN: The former Hassan Urban Development Authority chairman Manjunath, S.M. Anand, MLC, the former District Congress Committee president Raje Gowda and Youth Congress leader Mahesh have said that there is no dissidence in the district Congress unit and all leaders are working in a united manner.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, they said people were fed up with unstable governments. Mr. Anand described the 20-month rule by the Janata Dal (Secular), particularly in Hassan district, as a nightmare as farmers lands were being forcibly acquired and educational institutions were being demolished. A sizeable number of old trees in Gandhada Koti had been cut. They said there was no dissidence in the Congress, but agreed that as many as 11 leaders had tried hard for party ticket from Hassan. Once the “B” form was given to the former Minister B. Shivaram, his candidature was accepted. The whole party was working towards his victory, they added.

They said the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate was a stranger to Hassan. He was a contractor from Bangalore and had no ties to the district. The Janata Dal (S) candidate was a former MLA and had been a silent spectator when farmers’ lands were being forcibly acquired, they said. Mr. Shivaram had been MLA four times, and had also served as Minister in N. Dharam Singh’s Cabinet.

They charged Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Hanume Gowda with changing political loyalties frequently and expressed confidence that Mr. Shivaram would emerge victorious in the elections.
