HASSAN: District Electoral Officer Anjum Parvez said that five lorries fitted with borewell drilling units were seized in the district on Friday for violating the model code of conduct. A machine used to lay roads was seized in Bhyragondanahalli of Arsikere taluk. In Chennarayapatna taluk, borewells were drilled in Nuggenahalli and Ullavalli, Gundyanahalli in Arsikere taluk, near the Railway Colony in Arsikere town and in Belur town. Cases had been registered against those responsible for drilling the borewells. Mr. Parvez said that in Sakleshpur, a vigilance squad had seized 13 vehicles being used for campaign without permission. The squad also removed 433 banners, 1,427 posters, 128 flex boards, 4,505 metres of buntings and four cut-outs in the district. As many as 216 banners in Hassan, 522 posters in Shravanabelagola, 40 flex boards in Holenarsipur and 2,790 metre of buntings in Shravanabelagola were removed, he added. Mr. Parvez said the police had seized liquor worth Rs. 14 lakh in the district. This was in addition to 1,947 litres of illicit liquor seized by officials of the Excise Department. As many as 66 cases had been registered under the Excise Act, 198 under the Criminal Procedure Code, he added.
