Davangere: 23 withdraw papers

DAVANGERE: Twenty-three candidates withdrew their nomination papers in eight Assembly constituencies in the district on Friday. That leaves 82 candidates in the race for the elections. All 23 candidates who withdrew from the contest were independents.

Six withdrew in Davangere South, leaving 11 in the fray. Six candidates withdrew their nominations in Mayakonda where 12 candidates are in the race. Three candidates each withdrew their papers in Jagalur, Harpanahalli and Harihar. There are 10 candidates each in the race in Jagalur and Harpanahalli, while 12 are in the fray in Harihar.

One candidate each withdrew from the contest in Chennagiri and Honnali. Eight are in the race in Chennagiri, while nine are in the fray in Honnali. No one withdrew in Davangere North. The Congress has no candidate there owing to invalidation of the candidature of Syed Saifulla and S.S. Mallikarjun.
