Feeling the impact: Shops are closed at marketplace in Bhubaneswar on Friday morning as BJP called on strike in protest of price rise of essential commodities. BHUBANESWAR: The six-hour long bandh call given by State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party protesting against price rise evoked partial response as shops and other business establishments were opened ignoring the protestors at many places in the State. Supporters of BJP took out rallies at district headquarter towns and were seen requesting shoppers to shut down their outlets. But there was hardly any impact. Traders were quickly got down to their usual business. At few places, party workers were shouting slogans against UPA government and its faulty police that led to price rise of essential commodities. However, many frontline leaders were missing from the scene. The BJP activists submitted their memoranda addressed to the President of India to district Collectors and expressed their concerns. State unit BJP president Suresh Pujari claimed that the bandh was responded by people well. Many people voluntarily took part in the strike, he said. The rise in temperature also played a factor as many activists just participated for sake of country-wide bandh.
